INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP w/ EXHIBITING ARTIST LUIS PEREZ
-APPROACH AND METHODS TO MIXING COLORS, CONTROLLING EDGES AND USING MASKING FLUID IN WATERCOLOR-

The goals of this three-hour class are to challenge you artistically and technically and learn to develop a strategy of thinking ahead while planning future paintings. You will execute watercolor painting exercises that will cover:
-Mixing colors
-Edges:
o Prevent and/ or fixing ‘tide lines.’
o Creating soft edge
o Creating hard edges
-Masking fluid:
o Straight line
o Width control
-Lifting color
Luis will display original paintings so that you can see his approach to texture using the above-mentioned techniques and have a chance to ask questions in real time.

Requested Materials List:
-140 lb. watercolor paper cold press (block) – 9” x 12”
-140 lb. watercolor paper cold press scraps
-Ruling pen
-Masking fluid (preferably tinted)
-Painter’s tape
-Two triangle rulers or two (thin) metal rulers
-Gum Arabic
-Hand towel or dry kitchen sponge(s)
-Watercolor palette
-Two plastic containers for water
-Misting bottle
-Large plastic palette knife: “Scotty” Knife or Trowel Offset
Watercolor brushes (Natural or synthetic)
-Round size 0, 2, 4, 8 (or 10 or 12)
-Flat ¾”, 2”
-Bristle (acrylic/ oil paint) -Bright (filaments are shorter than the length) size 1 or 2 and 4 or 6.
Optional: Rosemary & Co. Eradicator: small and or medium
-Old credit card
-Paint Colors:
o Ultramarine Blue
o Alizarin Crimson
o Cad Red
o Cad Yellow Med
o Burnt Sienna
o Burnt Umber
o Prussian Blue
o Any other colors you like to work with


About your instructor:

Luis Pérez was born in Colombia and raised in Bogota and New York, where he graduated from the School of Visual Arts. After working in the fashion industry and community arts programming, he began in 2015 to present his work in outdoor exhibitions. He has won numerous awards, and his work has appeared in various watercolor and drawing publications
